Northern Soul is a music and dance movement that emerged from the British mod scene in Northern England and the English Midlands and was limited to a few dozen clubs over a period of a decade or so from the turn of the 70s. Northern Soul is based on a particular style of black American soul music, especially from the mid-1960s, with a heavy beat and fast tempo.
